In the early 1970's, there was phenomenal growth in the gas industry in India. The increasing need for communication and understanding between the gas manufacturers and government authorities as well as consumers necessitated the formation of a body that focused exclusively on the industrial gas industry; a body that could effectively communicate and synergize the needs and requirements of industrial gas manufacturers and suppliers with those of the policy makers.

It was in response to this need that the All India Industrial Gases Manufacturers' Association (AIIGMA) was formed in June 1975 and registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1940. Starting from just eight members in 1975, the Association today has grown from strength to strength, with its current membership standing at 310.

The Association disseminates information on National and International developments related to the gas industry. It also arranges meetings with visiting foreign delegations interested in the Indian gas industry and enables the participation of its members in various national and international activities to enhance their business potential.
